Frequently Asked Questions
about installations of windows, wells and walk-outs.
Question 1 - How will you protect my yard?
Answer - We will lay a blanket of plywood down to minimize the damage to your yard. However, we will leave you with landscaping, sprinkler systems, paver brick patios, etc. to be replaced and or repaired by the homeowner. We would be happy to do additional work at an hourly rate.
Question 2 - What will you dig with?
Answer - We dig with a Case Mini-X Excavator. It is very compact and able to sneak through narrow spots in yards and through fences. We occasionally bring in a Skid Steer (Bobcat) to haul dirt out and gravel in when we are working in areas to narrow to get our truck in.
Question 3 - How do you cut the concrete?
Answer - We cut the basement wall with hydraulic saws that cut with a diamond blade and water. Very little dust and no excessive gas fumes. We cut the wall on the outside of the house in the whole that we dug with the Mini-X. We haul off all concrete. We do not leave it in the hole like other competitors have been known to do.
Question 4 - Do you install a drain for my egress window well or for my walkout basement door?
Answer - Yes we do! We dig to drain tile and install a drain backfilled with gravel. If you do not have perimeter drain tile we recommend a sump kit be installed. If the homeowner declines on the sump kit, if recommended due to no drain tile, a drain release will have to be signed before proceeding.
Question 5 - Do you take the concrete and excess dirt or do you leave it?
Answer - We take all concrete for sure and we we take all dirt unless the homeowner requests that we leave it. (To move dirt other than next to the window well installed, or onto the truck to be hauled off, and up charge may apply?) We will let you, the homeowner, wheel barrel around your yard all the dirt you want!
Question 6 - Do you warranty your work?
Answer - Yes! We offer a 1 year warranty on installers workmanship and the manufactures of each component have their own additional warranties.
Question 7 - Do we up-charge?
Answer - NO and YES. We HATE being up charged ourselves! We feel it is bait and switch. We only up-charge when their is a change request made by the homeowner or when we run into something really obvious like the need for a sump kit due to no drain tile or while digging we run into buried VW Bus!
NOTE: Most, if not all, of our competitors up-charge habitually. When shopping for bids Be informed and ask the contractors you are receiving bids from if they up-charge and if so, what do the up charges usually consist of? Very, Very seldom do we up-charge. If we can't bid the job right from the start, we would rather just eat the extra costs and have a happy customer. Happy customers = referrals.
